Apparently the final chapter in the franchise, the game saw an initial release trailer and a launch date of August 8, with DLC set for Halloween 2015. There was more to come, however, with Cawthon unveiling Five Nights at Freddy's 4. Creator Scott Cawthon proved to be an extremely productive developer, pushing out both Five Nights at Freddy's 2 and Five Nights at Freddy's 3 in quick succession, selling impressively in spite of criticism of Cawthon and his series. The original game became a YouTube phenomenon, with Let's Players in particular enjoying the thrill of the title's jump scares. The success of the Five Nights at Freddy's series is something that was entirely unexpected.
